Defibrillator

A machine used to stabilize normal heart contraction rhythms.

Dextrocardia

An abnormal position of the heart within the abdomen. The heart is usually on the left but in this condition it is on the right.

Diastole

The normal period of relaxation and dilatation of the heart cavities.

Diastolic

The lower of the two blood pressure numbers. It is a measure of the heart at rest.

Lowest blood pressure, occurring when the heart is at rest between beats.

(Digoxin) A medicine which slows heart rate, increases contractions, and helps take fluid away from body tissue.
